Will PS5 game developers always have to offer free trials? Apparently, Sony is planning a demo requirement, but this shouldn’t apply to all titles.

Many PS5 buyers could soon have access to a huge number of well-known PS5 games, or at least parts of them, for free. According to the British gaming website Game Developer, Sony is in talks with developers about making a demo mandatory.

Accordingly, developers of PS5 games that are sold at a wholesale price of 33 euros (34 US dollars in the US) or more must henceforth provide a free demo of the respective title. These should be time-limited test versions that include at least two hours of play time.

But there’s a catch: these demos are only meant to be made available to PlayStation Plus Premium members. According to Game Developer’s source, Sony communicated these plans via its own developer portal. An exact start date for the implementation is not given.

Danger! O2 offers one of the few permanently available solutions to get a PS5. There you get the PS5 in a bundle with a mobile phone tariff.

The developers should publish corresponding demo versions no later than three months after the release of a title. In addition, the trial version must be available for download for PlayStation Plus Premium users for at least twelve months. Officially, Sony has not yet publicly confirmed these statements.
