Many Sony fans are wondering whether a PS5 Pro or PS5 Slim will appear. An insider is now naming release periods for two new PlayStation 5 models and dev kits.

- A new standard model is scheduled to appear in 2023.
- A PS5 Pro is more likely towards the end of 2024.
- A PS5 Slim is probably not planned at all.
There is little doubt that Sony is planning new PS5 models. Fans and industry insiders keep bringing up new models.
A new standard model of the PS5 with a separately removable Blu-ray drive is to be released in September 2023, reports Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming.
It shouldn’t be a slimmer “PS5 Slim”. Such a console model is probably not in the works for the time being.
PS5 Pro release and first dev kits
Instead, you can expect a more powerful PS5 Pro, but this will probably require a lot of waiting. Henderson forecasts a publication only for the period end of 2024.
According to Insider Gaming, Sony’s developer studios should receive developer consoles (“dev kits”) in the coming months, other studios only at the end of 2023.
New PlayStation Showcase
With a bit of luck, Sony will announce the new standard model in a live stream in the next few weeks. Then we’ll know more.
A new PlayStation show is set to take place the week of May 22-26, 2023, according to a tweet from gaming journalist Jeff Grubb. Videogameschronicle also reports insiders who claim that this show could take place in late May or early June.
