Your sweetheart is also more of the “Okay” and “Aha” type? Don’t worry, we know something.

We’d like it to be as outdated prejudice and cheap cliché dismiss the fact that men are not necessarily the greatest speakers among the sexes (especially not when it comes to feelings …). But unfortunately, surveys always suggest that there is something to the rumor.

Relationship: 20 questions that will get everyone talking

For example, in a survey of ElitePartner about things that could go better in the relationship, the wish that the partner would talk about his feelings more often landed in first place among the ladies. Men, on the other hand, expressed the assumption in the same survey that the partnership would work but certainly more harmonious if her friend wasn’t so emotional. Sounds a bit like a quandary – but it’s not! After all, why are we emotionally intelligent beings? We can get just about anyone to talk to us – we just have to ask the right questions.

20 questions that will get everyone talking

An important general rule for good questions is: Ask as specifically as possible! Classics and all-rounders like “How are you?” or “How was your day?” are far too general and abstract (and ultimately too demanding) to seriously address someone who just doesn’t feel the need to communicate.

Another useful rule if you really want to learn something interesting: Alluding to emotions, emotional experiences or fantasy and imagination with the question! Purely factual questions like “Who did you have lunch with today?” or “Do you already have plans for the weekend?” often result in short answers, which leads to further scrutiny – and leads the conversation in a very one-sided direction.

Examples? Examples!

  1. What did you laugh about the most today?
  2. What annoyed you the most today?
  3. What are you proud of today
  4. Who made it particularly difficult for you today?
  5. Who helped you the most today?
  6. At what moment would you most like to fast forward / rewind the time?
  7. If you were an animal, which one would you like to be?
  8. If you were one type of ice cream, what would it be?
  9. Suppose you could only eat one type of vegetable for the rest of your life – which one would you choose?
  10. Which movie would you most like to star in?
  11. Which movie is most like your life?
  12. If you lost your memory and were only allowed to keep one memory from your life, which one would you choose?
  13. Which wish would you most like to fulfill right now?
  14. What was your most interesting experience today?
  15. Who would you like to swap your life with for a week?
  16. What was your biggest challenge today and (how) did you overcome it?
  17. If you could rewind today and change something – would you do it? And if so: what would you do differently?
  18. Did something surprise you today? If yes, what?
  19. What would you say to your 14 year old self if you could meet it?
  20. What are you most grateful for right now?

By the way: Of course, with these questions you not only get your sweetheart, but also your girlfriend, buddy, brother and co. To talk to. Just try it out!
