We all suffer a variety of psychological injuries in the course of our lives, which can end in emotional poisoning. You should take these five warning signs seriously.

We usually associate the word poisoning with something physical – we can suffer from food poisoning or blood poisoning. But our psyche and our feelings can also be poisoned. When we are going through a difficult time and/or experiencing traumatic conflicts, for example, this can lead to emotional poisoning.

Because we are emotional beings, and permanent stress – also mental – affects us. Regardless of whether it is about a separation, problems at work or other psychological challenges. Such stress can have serious consequences and lead to depression or another mental illness. Therefore, you should be careful in dealing with your feelings. These warning signs can indicate that you are suffering from emotional intoxication.

4 Serious Signs of Emotional Intoxication

1. You are constantly in defensive posture

When your feelings are poisoned, it often shows in great insecurity. You may find that you constantly take on a defensive and defensive stance when someone approaches you about something. Even with small things, you build a wall around yourself and block everything. True to the motto “attack is the best form of defence”, you actually get into unnecessary conflicts because you don’t have your emotions under control.

2. You have a hard time looking at things rationally

When you’re under a lot of emotional stress, it can easily happen that your view of the world becomes clouded. You can no longer look at anything other than yourself – your thoughts only revolve around your problems. This makes it difficult for you to see your surroundings rationally.

Of course, we always see reality through our own personal glasses, shaped by the sum of our experiences and individual beliefs. But in this case, the emotional intoxication could take this condition to the extreme and make it extremely difficult for you to look at people and situations objectively because you are so preoccupied with yourself.

3. You can’t let go

Letting go is anything but easy for most of us anyway – even in the best of times. But if you are suffering from emotional poisoning, it is probably practically impossible for you to let people and relationships, but also conflicts, situations or even material things go.

Because you have the feeling that you hardly have any control over anything anyway, you unconsciously block here and do not want to give up even more control. This is of course an illusion, we can really control very few things in the world. But when your feelings are so poisoned by injuries and other stresses, it becomes all the more difficult to go through the world with an open heart and let go of what is no longer good for you.

4. You feel mentally drained

You just can’t anymore? Mental exhaustion can also be a sign of emotional intoxication. Because we probably all know it: feelings can be incredibly exhausting – at least if we really allow and feel them. And we should definitely do that, because suppressing it won’t get us anywhere. But it takes a lot of strength to go through all the painful emotions.

This can lead to a certain lethargy when we eventually run out of energy for other things. Caution: This often gradual process can end in depression. So you should be particularly vigilant here if you notice that you constantly feel weak, weak and tired.
