Yoga and mindfulness have experienced a real boom in recent years and are seen by many as effective ways to self-discovery and relaxation. But like many positive trends, there is a dark side here too.

Mindfulness is actually something positive – isn’t it? In fact, in extreme cases, self-reflection can tip into narcissism and egotism. The American psychology professor, Ramani Durvasula, warns that some people use these spiritual tools not for personal development, but rather as instruments to lure others into a “tyranny of well-being.”
