Pumpkin Shot – Curious trial of “top secret exercise” in the woods

A Carinthian weapons technician was shooting around in the Carinthian forest with his new silencer. A rotten pumpkin served as a target.

The 24-year-old defendant knows something about weapons. “I’m working on a new silencer that is more powerful and heat-resistant,” he explains to the judge at the Klagenfurt trial. “In order to try it out, I ordered gun parts on the Internet and assembled them.” And so the young technician and a friend of his soldier marched as “experts” into a wooded area in the beautiful town of Tschepitschach to secretly shoot around with Uzi and other prohibited weapons for practice purposes. “The action was unnecessary,” sighs the 22-year-old army officer. “But we were very careful not to damage anything and only shot at a rotten pumpkin.” Only one tree was hit – but it will survive the shots, the owner assured. Since the young shooters were subdued and confessed and in order not to obstruct their professional future, there was a diversion: 2000 euros and 2500 euros fine, gratefully accepted.
