Purchasing power: gasoline, food, rents… Here are the measures prepared by the government

Faced with the deterioration of the purchasing power of the French, the government, despite its expected change shortly, continues to work on the subject. Several measures are already planned.

As soon as the legislative elections have passed, an amending finance bill should thus be presented to the Council of Ministers, announces Radio France. The goal is for the new Assembly to be able to validate it quickly, in July.

Fuel and energy: current measures extended

Regarding gasoline, the text must provide for an extension of the reimbursement of 15 to 18 cents per liter, initially in force until July 31. However, no new deadline has been put forward. At the same time, a long-term device should replace it, targeting in particular large wheelers, forced to use their vehicle to work.

In the same spirit, the tariff shield on gas and electricity (preventing prices from increasing for consumers) must be extended until the end of 2022.

The food check arrives

Voted a year ago, the food check must be implemented this summer, according to the government. This aid would concern “young people or families with children on low incomes”, indicated the Ministry of Agriculture. People living below the poverty line will also benefit. Eight million French people could thus receive this check.

Its amount has yet to be determined. It should be around 50 to 60 euros per month and per household. While, initially, this money was to be used to buy only French agricultural products, the thing should finally be extended to all basic necessities.

The benchmark rental index frozen?

Our colleagues also indicate that the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, would not be insensitive to the request to freeze the benchmark rent index, in order to prevent them from increasing each year. The index is indeed calculated via inflation, but this should last. It remains to be seen how the new government will take up this idea.
