Pure power – AC Cobra GT Roadster: New edition of the V8 bolide

AC Cars, Britain’s oldest car manufacturer at 122 years old, is resurrecting the legendary Cobra as a GT Roadster – more modern and stronger than ever.

In London, the British unveiled a new generation of the Cobra, which has been in production for over 60 years. The new edition, called the GT Roadster, remains true to the design language of the classic sports car with its carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic body. The designers have given the 4.23 meter short two-seater a modern touch with LED daytime running lights and flush-mounted door handles. The cockpit offers a mix of classic analogue instruments and digital displays. The aluminum space frame chassis and running gear have been completely redeveloped. The modern substructure allows the use of more powerful V8 engines. As before, these come from Chevrolet. Customers can choose between the two power levels with 460 hp or 663 hp and a six-speed manual or ten-speed automatic. In the more powerful version, the 1,450-kilogram Cobra accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in a good 3.5 seconds. AC Cars plans to build 250 GT Roadsters a year from 2024. In Great Britain, the Cobra GT Roadster costs the equivalent of just over 320,000 euros including taxes. For German customers, the prices should be similarly high – in Austria you can add a lot of NoVA. (SPX)
