Putin looks away from Kadyrov

Ramzan Kadyrov describes opponents and journalists as terrorists and threatens them with annihilation. Nevertheless, he is received by President Putin. Everything seems to be allowed for the ruler from the North Caucasus.

Ramzan Kadyrov has been the undisputed ruler of the Russian republic of Chechnya in the North Caucasus since 2007.

Rallies like the one on Wednesday in the Chechen capital Grozny are an absolute rarity in Russia. Tens of thousands – according to official, unrealistic figures as many as 400,000 – men gathered without prior authorization to rally behind Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Russian republic of Chechnya. They did this by denigrating the family of former judge Saidi Yangulbayev and demanding that independent Russian media outlets be shut down. Among other things, they burned portraits of Jangulbayev’s relatives.
