PARIS (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz’s meeting on Saturday with Vladimir Putin did not reveal any desire in the Russian president to end the war in Ukraine, reported the Elysée, which made state of a “difficult conversation”.

The French President and the German Chancellor made it clear to Vladimir Putin that the abuses must end in Ukraine, said the Elysée, according to which the situation is notably “desperate” and “humanly unsustainable” in Mariupol, a city in the south-east of Ukraine besieged by the Russian army.

The objective of France and its partners is to obtain “a ceasefire as quickly as possible” and Emmanuel Macron intends to use all the diplomatic instruments at his disposal to achieve this, said the Elysée.
