Qualcomm has just launched its new processor, the Snapdragon X Elite, designed to increase the power of artificial intelligence applications on PCs.

The “most powerful computer processor ever created for PCs”

Tuesday was the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii. On this occasion, the chip manufacturer presented its new processor, the Snapdragon X Elite, calling it “the most powerful computer processor ever created for PCs”. According to the brand, it represents a “leap forward” in AI processing by the personal computers we all need to communicate, work, entertain and educate ourselves.

The Snapdragon detailed the brand, before recalling that the new Oryon processor offered “CPU performance up to twice that of the competition”.

The Snapdragon X Elite is also equipped with a Qualcomm Adreno GPU, now capable of reaching 4.6 TFLOPs. Battery life has also been improved, the brand claims: it could reach several days on a single charge.

A processor designed for AI

The new processor comes with a Qualcomm AI engine and an integrated Hexagon Neural Processor (NPU), making it possible to run an AI-enabled device and Large Language Models (LLM), with more than 13 billion parameters.

“As AI transforms the way we interact with our PCs, Snapdragon rich creativity and deliver immersive entertainment experiences, wherever you are,” says Qualcomm.

The processor will also feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity supported by the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF system, capable of supporting maximum download speeds of 10 Gbps and upload speeds of 3.5 Gbps.

Qualcomm does not forget security, which remains at the forefront. The processor thus features Qualcomm’s secure processing unit that works with Microsoft’s Pluton Trusted Platform Module (TPM), memory encryption and Microsoft Secured-core PC support. Additionally, Qualcomm’s Sensing Hub has been enhanced to streamline authentication and login processes.
