The first benchmarks for Apple’s new M3 chips have been revealed on the Geekbench site. This is the opportunity to compare them to Qualcomm’s future chip for PC, the Snapdragon X Elite.
Apple recently unveiled its new M3 chip which will be integrated into two new MacBooks as well as a new iMac. While awaiting their commercial release on November 7, the first synthetic benchmarks are already available via the Geekbench tool.
If these figures allow a first comparison between the different Apple chips, they allow us to make another with Qualcomm’s future ARM chip for PC, the Snapdragon X Elite.
Snapdragon X Elite faster than M3
A few days ago, Qualcomm revealed the results of the first benchmarks for its Snapdragon X Elite chip which should arrive on PC in mid-2024. Figures that can already be compared to those of the M3 chip available on the Geekbench site. (via MacRumors)
According to these first figures, the Snapdragon Qualcomm’s processor would even be above the M2 Max chip and its 12 CPU cores unveiled at the beginning of the year. However, it does not compete with the M3 Max nor with the M2 Ultra (present in the Mac Pro and Mac Studio) which remain well above in this multi-core test.
Preliminary but promising results
Obviously, these are only synthetic benchmarks which will give you an idea of the level of performance of each of these chips, but with differences which will not necessarily reflect reality. However, we can expect future Windows laptops that will easily exceed the performance of a basic M3 chip.
But with these first indicators, we are witnessing the start of fierce competition in the segment of ARM processors for laptops. If Qualcomm’s response appears to be as effective as what these benchmarks outline, then Apple will have a lot to worry about. Especially before the arrival of Nvidia and AMD in the same segment by 2025.
