What is the quark diet?

Contrary to what you might think, the quark diet is not a crash diet, as not only the dairy product quark, but also other foods can be eaten. Quark – or more precisely low-fat curd – only forms the basis of the diet and should be combined with various healthy foods such as vegetables or whole grains during the diet. If done correctly, the quark diet can shed a few pounds in just a few weeks.

Is low-fat quark healthy for losing weight?

Quark has a lot of protein, which, according to study results, is particularly helpful in losing weight for several reasons: On the one hand, protein keeps you full for a long time and strengthens the muscles in the body, and on the other hand it ensures that the blood sugar level remains at a constant level, which reduces fat storage. Another advantage of low-fat quark: It contains few calories and fat, which is why you can generally eat a little more of it.

Lose weight: This is how the quark diet works

For the curd diet, all meals should first be replaced with low-fat quark. The following combinations are conceivable with quark:

  • With raw or cooked vegetables (e.g. cucumber, peppers, carrots)
  • With jacket potatoes
  • With wholemeal bread
  • With berries or other sweet fruit like grapes or peaches

Can a diet containing curd cause deficiency symptoms?

Anyone who combines the diet in a balanced way will generally not experience any deficiency symptoms during the recommended duration of the diet of four to six weeks. Important: You should also drink a lot during the curd diet, ideally two to three liters of water daily. But unsweetened herbal tea can also be on the menu. After one to two weeks, one meal with quark per day is replaced with a normal meal, then gradually the second and third.

What are the disadvantages of the quark diet?

On the one hand, you obviously need a certain amount of stamina if you mainly eat quark for weeks. On the other hand, depending on the amount consumed, you can relatively quickly reach the maximum daily amount of protein recommended by the German Nutrition Society – and this can have detrimental effects on health. Too much protein puts strain on the kidneys and liver and can also result in constipation. If you notice that you are getting these kinds of symptoms while on the curd diet, you should stop it early.
