Queen Elizabeth II
Eight special stamps for the 70th throne jubilee
The Royal Mail has released eight commemorative stamps in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th Jubilee.
Honor where honor is due: on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the throne, the Royal Mail honors Queen Elizabeth II (95) with a total of eight new stamps. The motifs chosen show the Queen at various official occasions during her reign.
For example, in a black-and-white picture, she waves to the cameras with a smile during a visit to the United States with Prince Consort Philip (1921-2021) in 1957. In other pictures she can be seen in 2020 during a visit to the British secret service MI5 or at a ceremony in Windsor (1999).
A tribute to her life
The chief of the British postal service, Simon Thompson, said in a statement to the BBC about a “tribute to a remarkable life of duty and public service”. These eight stamps are a “celebration of the second Elizabethan age”. A total of four so-called first-class stamps worth around 1 euro and four 1.7 pound stamps (around 2 euros) were released. All eight stamps can be ordered online together for £10.20 (approx. €12).
It goes without saying that this is not the first time that the Queen has been immortalized on a postage stamp. In addition to numerous portraits on conventional stamps, the Royal Mail also brought out comparable special editions for the 25th, 50th and 60th jubilee.
