The Queen is back in London and held her first major event in front of Buckingham Palace since the pandemic broke out.
Queen Elizabeth II (95) has given the starting signal for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. At her side was her youngest son, Prince Edward (57). The Queen traditionally handed over the baton for the international season on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace in London. He will be sent on a journey through all participating nations of the sporting event. There is a message from the Queen in the staff.
In the pictures of the event, the 95-year-old is in a good mood. The monarch wore an orange coat and a hat with floral decorations in the same color to match the autumn. According to British media reports, the event was the first big date for the 95-year-olds in the London residence since the beginning of the corona pandemic.
Prince Edward in the spotlight
Royal experts assume that Prince Edward will take on more tasks and appointments in the future. He and his wife Sophie (56) could close the gap created by the voluntary departure of Prince Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (40) last year. Prince Andrew (61) resigned from his public duties at the end of 2019. He had previously given an interview about his alleged involvement in the Epstein scandal, which turned into a PR disaster for him.
