In a few weeks it will mark the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne. For this reason, Buckingham Palace has now announced the full program for the Queen’s Platinum Anniversary.

Cheers, Queen Elizabeth! The 95-year-old celebrates her jubilee on February 6, 2022 – the day on which her father, King George VI. died and she had to follow in his footsteps.

Queen Elizabeth: The anniversary of her father’s death is her anniversary

For the past few years, Queen Elizabeth has spent the anniversary of her father’s death at Sandringham Castle. Here her beloved papa took his last breath. But because of the corona pandemic, the Queen did not travel to Norfolk as usual for Christmas. It is therefore unclear where she will be on February 6th.

Because: Most of the celebrations will take place later. The big weekend on the occasion of the platinum anniversary is planned for June. The 2nd and 3rd June have therefore been declared a public holiday. However, it is not yet known which events the Queen will attend personally because of her state of health. It is expected that she will be actively supported by Prince Charles, 73, and Duchess Camilla, 74, as well as Prince William, 39, and Duchess Catherine, 40, among others.

The Queen announces a nationwide pudding competition

Part of the anniversary celebrations are already starting with the nationwide pudding competition organized by the “Fortnum & Mason” department store. Hobby chefs should submit their recipe for a new pudding dedicated to the Queen by February. In May there will be a 90-minute show at Windsor Castle in honor of British history. More than 500 horses and 1000 performers will be present.

The first day (June 2) of the four day celebration begins with the Queen’s traditional birthday parade – Trooping the Color – at Horse Guards Parade. More than a thousand soldiers with horses and music bands are expected. It will also ignite more than 500 lights across the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and Commonwealth of Nations. A thank you service for the long reign of Queen Elizabeth will take place in St. Paul’s Cathedral on June 3rd.

Party in the palace

On Saturday (June 4th) the Queen will host a “Platinum Party in the Palace”. The British broadcaster BBC organized a live concert with “some of the world’s greatest entertainment stars” and tickets are being raffled off. The platinum anniversary ends on Sunday with the “Big Jubilee Lunch”. The British are encouraged to come together in their districts to eat and celebrate – more than 200,000 such parties are expected.

A large festival with over 5000 performers from the Commonwealth is also being held in the UK’s capital to portray the history of the Queen’s reign with the help of music, theater, artistry and the latest technology. In addition, 200 silk flags, which have been painted by children on the subject of climate change, are supposed to form a “river of hope” in a procession. After this extended weekend of celebration, the dress that Queen Elizabeth wore at her coronation will be exhibited at Windsor Castle.

Queen Elizabeth is the longest-serving monarch in British history. Queen Victoria ruled for 63 years and celebrated her diamond jubilee shortly before her death. No British monarch has ever reached the platinum anniversary.
