After her two-week hiatus to recover, Queen Elizabeth had firmly envisaged Remembrance Sunday as her return to her duties. Due to new health problems, however, she had to cancel at short notice and the question arises whether the monarch will have to continue to resign in the future.

In October, Queen Elizabeth, 95, terrified the people when she spent a night in the hospital. She was only in the clinic for a few “preliminary examinations”, but the doctors have “recommended Her Majesty that she should rest for at least the next two weeks,” said a statement from the palace after she had also made a trip to Northern Ireland had canceled.

Queen Elizabeth cancels Remembrance Day participation

The monarch initially only attended digital appointments and even stayed away from the COP26 climate summit in Scotland. However, she did not want to miss the memorial service as part of Remembrance Sunday on November 14, 2021. But then the next bad news: Due to back problems, the 95-year-old had to cancel her participation in the commemoration just two hours before the start. She was “deeply disappointed”, it was said, it was her “firm intention” to be back at these important celebrations in London.

Instead, the Queen had to watch the ceremony live on television at her home in Windsor. Instead, on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, Duchess Camilla, 74, Sophie von Wessex, 56, and Duchess Catherine, 39, symbolized a unity, while Prince Charles, 73, Prince William, 39, Princess Anne, 71, and Prince Edward, 57, laid wreaths at the cenotaph in honor of the fallen.

Will the Queen still have to resign?

It is not unlikely that Queen Elizabeth will continue to be represented by senior royals at public appointments and important events. “I’m very sure that the public will not see them on the road as often,” an insider told the Daily Mail. “That means it will remain visible, but will do less strenuous tasks within the palace walls.”

Palace employees believe that it is entirely possible that some important events, such as the award of honors and medals, may be reduced for the Queen in the future, or that they may take place in smaller appointments or one-on-one meetings.
