Queens on Disney+: who are the heroines of this new musical drama?

Eve is Brianna, aka Professor Sex

On the poster for Queens, rapper Eve is used to working with other artists. During her career, she notably had the opportunity to collaborate with Prince, The Roots, Alicia Keys, Dr Dre, Ludacris, Sean Paul, Missy Elliott and Gwen Stefani, with whom she won a Grammy Award in 2002 for the tube Let Me Blow Ya Mind.

In parallel with music, Eve began her career on the big screen in 2002 in Tim Story’s Barbershop. A few years later, she again embodies the character of Terri Jones in the following two opuses. She also played the main role in the sitcom Eve, unpublished in France, from 2003 to 2006. Appeared in Glee and on roller skates in Bliss, she gave the reply to Daniel Craig in the comedy-drama Flashbacks of a Fool.

In Queens, the actress plays Brianna, aka Professor Sex, one of the four members of the group Nasty Bitches. Twenty years after the group broke up, she is now a busy mother, who will discover that her marriage may not be as solid as she thought.

Naturi Naughton as Jill, aka Da Thrill

Singer and actress Naturi Naughton is no stranger to life in a girl band, having made her name in the 2000s thanks to the hip-hop group 3LW (3 Little Women), with Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams . In 2009, she made her film debut in Notorious BIG where she played rapper Lil’ Kim. The same year, she gave voice to Fame and covered the famous song Out Here On My Own.

More recently appeared in the series Mad Men, Client List and Power, Naturi Naughton embodies Jill, alias Da Thrill, in Queens. While she and her husband are trying to have a child together, she hides a heavy secret from him that will jeopardize their common project and their marriage.

Nadine Velazquez is Valeria, aka Butter Pecan

Actress and model Nadine Velazquez made her mark on the small screen from the early 2000s in the series Earl, The League, Hart of Dixie, Major Crimes and SIX, and through appearances in the popular Scrubs, Entourage , Las Vegas and Love, Glory and Beauty. In the cinema, she gives the reply to Denzel Washington in the drama Flight, and Dwayne Johnson in the action film Infiltrated, among others.

Valeria, aka Butter Pecan, the character she plays on screen in Queens, managed to stay in the spotlight after the Nasty Bitches split by pursuing a career in television.

Brandy Norwood is Naomi, aka Xplicit Lyrics

Revealed at a very young age thanks to her talents as a singer, Brandy Norwood signed her first contract with Atlantic Records at the age of 14. She made an international hit in 1998 with the hit The Boy Is Mine, sung in duet with Monica, for which the two artists won a Grammy Award.

The year before this discographic success, she was spotted by her idol Whitney Houston and won the title role of the musical film The Legend of Cinderella (available on Disney +), with the star of Bodyguard and Whoopi Goldberg. In parallel with her musical career, she also appears in Remember… Last Summer 2 and the series Drop Dead Diva, 90210 Beverly Hills: New Generation and Star.

Alongside her three co-stars, Brandy Norwood lends her features to Naomi, aka Xplicit Lyrics, in Queens. Mother of a teenager, for whom she is very little present, the artist continues to live from her passion, music, with nevertheless a little less success than in the past.
