Director poisons films from streaming services
Quentin Tarantino sees a big problem with films from streaming platforms.

After the Marvel franchise, Quentin Tarantino took on other film productions – those of the relevant streaming services.
If anything or anyone could harm his beloved cinema, “Pulp Fiction” director Quentin Tarantino (60) does not understand fun. He now has that all in one Interview with the US industry website “Deadline” demonstrated. Tarantino, who is currently at the Cannes Film Festival, is particularly critical of one development in the film industry: streaming services such as Netflix, Apple TV + and Co., which produce films themselves.
Regarding the fact that he doesn’t want to make any more feature films after his planned tenth film entitled “The Movie Critic”, he says: “Now is a good time for it. Because what is a feature film anymore? Is it just something pointing at Apple?” In his eyes, it is immensely important that films are produced for the cinema and that they then “come on television at some point”. Many streaming productions, on the other hand, either end up exclusively on the screen for a very short time or even directly on the platform. “But these films don’t exist in the zeitgeist. It’s almost like they don’t exist at all.”
Profitable but insignificant?
These films are lucrative – in addition to the streaming services themselves – especially for the actors: “I don’t want to pick on individual ones. But apparently Ryan Reynolds has $ 50 million for this one, $ 50 million for that one and $ 50 million for the next Netflix movie. It’s good for him that he’s making so much money.” According to Tarantino, however, he and all the other actors in such films would not necessarily be doing the cinema any favors.
Last year, Marvel films had drawn the star director’s displeasure. At the time, he emphasized that he didn’t “hate” the comic films. On the other hand, what frustrates him: “They seem to be the only thing that’s being done right now, and they’re the only thing that seems to get the fanbase excited and the studio that makes them.” Tarantino complained that Marvel films and their DC counterparts are currently leaving too little room for other films.
