Juicy shortbread: The Scots’ favorite pastry

Shortbread is a British shortbread pastry, more precisely it comes from Scotland. A French baker at the court of Mary Stuart (1542 to 1587) is said to have invented the moist butter biscuits in their current form. Queen Mary is said to have immediately fallen in love with the delicious pastry and thus triggered a real shortbread hype in Great Britain.

However, the buttery cookies were quite expensive for the population at the time due to their ingredients. They were therefore usually only available on special occasions. The British especially enjoy the biscuits with tea – even today.
