Up to four people can fly in Hyundai’s eVTOL. The electric air taxi can be powered by solid-state batteries and is said to be as quiet as a dishwasher.

Electric air taxis, which do not require a runway to land and take off but can take off vertically, have been presented several times at the CES in the past. Some CEOs even commute to work on such flying machines every day. But the machines have rarely looked as close to series production as the now presented eVTOL S-A2!

In Las Vegas, the Supernal brand, which belongs to the Hyundai Group, unveiled the aircraft called S-A2, which the company presented for the first time in 2020. Supernal has used the last few years to invest in the design and technology of the eVTOL.
According to the company, the air taxi will now be “as quiet as a dishwasher” (65 dB when taking off, 45 dB when landing) and can transport up to four people. According to Hyundai’s plans, the eVTOL will be used primarily in inner-city areas – low noise development is essential.
The company specifies a flight altitude of 1,500 feet (457 meters), with a speed of around 200 km/h. Solid-state batteries will be used as energy sources and will allow a typical range of 40 to 65 kilometers. Solid state batteries are considered safer and more durable than lithium batteries.
The aircraft with eight rotors is not designed for autonomous operation and could therefore be deployed quickly. According to company information, efforts are being made to begin inner-city test flights in the USA at the end of 2024. Series production is planned for 2028. You can read more news from CES here.
