Viggo Mortensen, who is celebrating his 64th birthday today, was revealed to the general public with his role as Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. But his filmography is far from being limited to it, as we will be able to verify with this quiz!

Viggo Mortensen was born in New York in 1958, but experienced many moves in his youth, living his early years between Venezuela, Denmark and Argentina, the country in which he attended primary school, before returning to live in the United States. United at the age of eleven.

He made his acting debut in the theater, and obtained a first role in the cinema under the direction of Peter Weir in Witness in 1985, a detective film taking place within the Amish community, with Harrison Ford in the main role. He then played supporting roles for fifteen years in films such as The Indian Runner by Sean Penn, USS Alabama by Tony Scott, and Equal Arms by Ridley Scott.

It was in the early 2000s that his career took on a whole new dimension, and the actor gained worldwide recognition thanks to his role as Aragorn in Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, adapted for the cinema by Peter Jackson.

A decade which will also see him collaborate twice with David Cronenberg for A history of violence and The promises of the shadows, a film which will earn him a nomination in the category Best actor at the Oscars.

Two other films earned him another nomination for this prestigious award. First in 2017, for Captain Fantastic, then two years later in 2019 for Green Book, a film in which Viggo Mortensen played the role of the driver of black pianist Don Shirley, who decided to perform on several stages in the deep south of the ‘America.
