Rachida Dati in government: “This appointment proves that Culture is not their first concern,” criticizes Alain Finkielkraut

Europe 1

Guest of the Grand Rendez-vous, the philosopher and writer Alain Finkielkraut returned to the surprise appointment of Rachida Dati to the Ministry of Culture. According to him, this decision is above all a political “war take”, which “proves that Culture is not the first concern” of the government.

It was the surprise of the reshuffle. The appointment of Rachida Dati to the Ministry of Culture. But the former elected LR, excluded after joining the presidential camp, also does not hide her ambitions for the Paris municipal elections in 2026. Faced with criticism, particularly from the left, the Minister of Culture denounces a “class contempt” . But “that’s not the question”, believes Alain Finkielkraut. Guest of the Grand Rendez-vous d’Europe 1/ CNews/ Les Échos, the philosopher and writer considers that “this appointment proves that culture is not the first concern” of the government.

Rachida Dati “is a prize of war for the government”

“It has been a long time since the post of Minister of Culture was entrusted to a friend of the arts, letters and philosophy. We are very far from André Malraux and I don’t know much by Rachida Dati. What I know is that for the government she is above all a prize of war. Having an important minister come from the Republican camp to weaken this camp is a calculation that has its legitimacy. But that has absolutely nothing to do with culture,” regrets Alain Finkielkraut.

According to Alain Finkielkraut, the reproaches should be made to Emmanuel Macron who “constituted this government”, and not to Rachida Dati. For the philosopher, the Ministry of Culture has “started to sink into the whole cultural” with Jack Lang, whom he nevertheless describes as a “flamboyant Minister of Culture”. “Those who care about culture have had nothing to do with the Ministry of Culture for a long time,” he concludes at the Grand Rendez-vous microphone.
