Raise your head or abandon all hope for 2027: in the European elections, the Republicans will play big

For the right, this promises to be an arduous task. In this year 2024, the Republicans will go to the polls, during the European elections, scheduled for next June. The objective for the party will be to raise its head after the bitter failure of the last presidential election for which candidate Valérie Pécresse had not even reached the 5% mark.

But the Republicans, who could, in the coming weeks, nominate François-Xavier Bellamy as head of the list, will have to face stiff competition. First that of Jordan Bardella, favorite in the polls, but also that of Marion Maréchal, very offensive on immigration. Without forgetting the pro-European list of the majority candidate.

Do not do less than in 2019

The objective for LR is therefore to reach at least 8% of this same François-Xavier Bellamy in 2019. A lower score would confirm the party’s hopes for the next presidential election, while a good surprise could on the contrary serve as a catalyst for a party which only has 60 deputies, but which has not given up hope of getting back on track.

After the European elections, the Republicans will turn towards 2027. A vote for which two men are preparing: David Lisnard, at the head of his New Energy movement, but also Laurent Wauquiez, close to Éric Ciotti, and who could come out of his media diet in the coming months.

To meet the challenge, the party must be in battle order. A mission that falls to Éric Ciotti, who will inaugurate a new headquarters in the coming weeks, close to the Assembly, and who at the same time is increasing programmatic meetings, with one objective: to bring back to the top a party that has been on hold since 2022.
