Eric Woerth was the guest of the “Grand Rendez-Vous” this Sunday on Europe1, CNews and Les Echos. At the microphone of Sonia Mabrouk, the former LR minister justified his decision not to support Valérie Pécresse to rally to Emmanuel Macron. He claimed he was not “militant to the point of blindness”.

INTERVIEW

Eric Woerth assumes his decision to support Emmanuel Macron for the presidential election. The former minister of Nicolas Sarkozy even justified this choice this Sunday in the “Grand Rendez-Vous” on Europe 1 and CNews. At the microphone of Sonia Mabrouk, he insisted that he was not a traitor but that he was not “militant until blindness”.

“I do not deny anything I said”

“Emmanuel Macron’s presidency has changed a lot. He gradually returned to the real clothes of a President of the Republic. I do not deny anything I said,” said Eric Woerth, reacting to the very harsh remarks that he had been able to have against the Head of State. Has the former minister of Nicolas Sarkozy turned his coat around? “No, I just think a second term of Emmanuel Macron will be a good term. I said what I had to say about the first term, at least the first three years.”

A rallying for “the interest of the country”

Eric Woerth says Emmanuel Macron has pleasantly surprised him over the past two years. “There is one thing that overhangs the parties: it is the interest of the country. I think that the interest of the country is to have an experienced president who is able to reform. I think that is the case with Emanuel Macron”.

The former minister of Nicolas Sarkozy explains that he left Les Républicains for “ideological” and “pragmatic” reasons. “I have exercised a lot of responsibilities, I am not in need of any ambition”, he replies to those who point the finger at his opportunism and argue that Emmanuel Macron would have promised him a ministry in exchange for his support.
