Ranger training – 25 future nature experts learn in East Tyrol

In the East Tyrolean part of the Hohe Tauern National Park (NPHT), 25 participants learn everything they need to become rangers. The participants come from near and far and can also explore the local flora and fauna.

From botany to first aid – the spectrum for a real national park ranger is broad. 25 prospective specialists complete the first 17-day module in Matrei. The certificate course consists of three units. The participants come not only from Austria, but also from neighboring countries and now, in addition to the basics of nature conservation, zoology or botany, they also get to know ecological relationships or nature education teaching methods. Proper first aid is also a must. “I am particularly pleased that we can carry out the basic module in the Hohe Tauern National Park and that there is a high demand for training,” explains NPHT director Hermann Stotter. Future national park rangers for the East Tyrolean part of the NPHT are also being trained in the current course. People who like to be out and about in the high mountains or who want to pass on their enthusiasm for outdoor experiences and the local flora and fauna also take part. For Provincial Councilor René Zumtobel, the training has great added value: “With their work, the rangers are important multipliers towards nature-interested visitors.”
