St. Gallen finds its way back to winning in the Super League.

In three weeks, St. Gallen and Lugano will face each other in the cup final. If you take the last championship game as a benchmark, the 20-year title streak of St. Gallen should come to an end on May 15th. In a one-sided game on Sunday, FCSG celebrated a 3-0 home win against a harmless Lugano and moved up to two points behind fourth-placed Ticino in the table.

The St. Gallen had already set the course for victory in the first 35 minutes:

  • 19 minutes: Julian von Moos is brought down on the edge of the penalty area by Lugano’s Sandi Lovric. After studying the video images, referee Luca Cibelli decides on a penalty. Captain Lukas Görtler safely converts.
  • 32 minutes: After Kreshnik Hajrizi lost the ball, the St. Gallen offensive was allowed to try three times to score. Bastien Toma and Patrick Sutter’s shots are blocked, Moos inherits them and scores the second St. Gallen goal.
  • 34 minutes: Only two minutes after the 0: 2 Lugano goalkeeper Amir Saipi has to reach behind him again. A butter-soft cross from Görtler is headed in by Fabian Schubert.

There was initially no reaction from the weak Luganesi – the Ticino suffered their third clear bankruptcy in a row in St. Gallen – even after the change of sides. Only in the final phase of the game did the guest from Ticino fight back against defeat. But Lawrence Ati Zigi in the St. Gallen goal prevented both Mohammed Amoura (71′) and Hadj Mahmoud (74′) from scoring.

For both teams, the championship continues on Saturday for the time being. Lugano welcomes the Grasshoppers (6:00 p.m.), St. Gallen travels to Servette in Geneva to fight for the next points (8:30 p.m.). On May 15, both teams are serious about the cup final.
