Raphaël Elmaleh: at 9 years old, the son of Charlotte Casiraghi shines in an unusual sport


Daughter of Charlotte of Monaco, Charlotte Casiraghi lived a romance with the comedian Gad Elmaleh, from 2011 to 2015. From their union was born Raphaël Elmaleh, in 2013. The young boy distinguished himself during a sporting competition which took place on the Rock this Saturday, April 6. Indeed, the 2nd Pàijeda Open, a Monegasque martial art, took place on this date, in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco, his wife Princess Charlene and their children, reported Monaco Morning, this April 13. The competition was held as part of the International Day of Sport, for Development and Peace.

More than a hundred competitors, aged 6 to 14, took up the challenge and competed in different events. During the competition, Raphaël Elmaleh placed on the podium several times. He thus obtained the silver medal during the Assault discipline, in the junior category. Then, he placed third and therefore obtained the bronze medal, after demonstrating his technical skills in this sport. Results which certainly made his parents proud.

A specific martial art

The word pàijeda is “composed of the terms “pàije”, meaning “peace”, in the Monegasque language, and the initials “defense art”, we can read on the website dedicated to this sport. It is defined as a defensive sport, which uses techniques, both defensive and offensive, and authorized. This discipline highlights moral and ethical values, as stipulated on the website dedicated to Pàijeda. Young children and seniors alike can practice this sport. Participants progress gradually and move up in level (grade) based on their experience.
