In London, British rapper Takayo Nembhard, originally from Bristol and known by the stage name TKorStretch, died after being injured with a knife during the Notting Hill neighborhood carnival.

A man was stabbed to death on Monday night at London’s Notting Hill carnival, which celebrates Caribbean culture and was making a comeback after two years of cancellations due to the pandemic, police said. The Metropolitan Police in the British capital said they were informed at around 8:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. GMT) that a 21-year-old man had been injured with a knife. Officers gave him first aid and he was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Takayo Nembhard, a rapper from Bristol, south west England, known by the stage name TKorStretch, who came to London to attend carnival with his sister and friends, his manager said Chris Patrick. A murder investigation was opened by police, who appealed to the public for information, noting that hundreds of people were at the scene.

200 arrests, including 46 for assault

Flamboyant floats, thunderous orchestras, multicolored feathered headdresses and rhinestone bikinis, the carnival in this west London district is considered the second carnival in the world after that of Rio, in Brazil. Burning the streets of Notting Hill for three days, this event usually brings together two million people. “The atmosphere over the past two days has been largely positive and good-natured as carnival should be,” said Alison Heydari of the Met Police, quoted in a statement. “Unfortunately on Monday evening we witnessed a number of violent incidents and a 21-year-old man lost his life,” she added.
