The two organizations have been waging a merciless virtual war against these pirate sites for years and already have many closures of such entities on their list. A few days ago, ACE notably participated in the closure of streaming services in Latin America and contributed to the cessation of more than 2,000 similar operations in Singapore.
A fierce struggle motivated by figures quoted by the MPA in a report to the US government: “ In 2020, an estimated 137.2 billion visits were made to series/movie piracy sites, costing the US economy $29.2 billion. It is estimated that piracy has cost this industry between 230,000 and 560,000 jobs “.
As such, the MPA wishes to involve in tracking down such sites not only the US government, but the entire Internet ecosystem. The association believes that hosts, DNS or cloud service providers, but also advertisers, social networks and search engines have a role to play in participating in this fight.
The MPA cites as an example the company Cloudflare, which counts among its customers a certain PirateBay, despite several legal warnings left unanswered. If they are not targeted directly in the list of the association, many intermediaries of this type are invited to contribute more.
A global virtual fight
The MPA thus targets organizations that are not based in the United States. Indeed, there are many domain names registered in Russia or China on its shopping list, which continue to prosper due to much less developed copyright legislation.
In addition to pirate sites, the MPA also intends to attack so-called ” piracy as a service “. These organizations indeed offer tools to create pirate sites, even for neophytes on the technical and monetary issues of such an operation.
