The transfer window opens in the NFL this Wednesday, but the first big deals on the free agent market have already been bagged. The Baltimore Ravens are signing a star running back. Two well-known quarterbacks are also changing teams.
Star running back Derrick Henry is leaving the Tennessee Titans and joining the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL professional football league. Several US media reported on the deal. The 30-year-old, one of the most prominent and sought-after free agents on the market, will receive a two-year contract with the Ravens that will pay him $16 million. The transfer window in the NFL opens this Wednesday.
Henry is leaving the Titans after eight seasons, during which time he was selected to the Pro Bowl four times and was also the leading runner in the entire league twice. At the Ravens he joins star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was voted the league’s most valuable player (MVP) last season – the two could form an explosive duo.
Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals are parting ways with running back Joe Mixon. According to reports, the Bengals initially wanted to release the 27-year-old, but now they transferred Mixon to the Houston Texans in exchange for unspecified draft picks. The Bengals had previously secured the services of Zack Moss.
There have been changes in numerous well-known players in the NFL in recent days. In addition to Henry and Mixon, there was also news for quarterbacks Russell Wilson (from the Denver Broncos to the Pittsburgh Steelers) and Kirk Cousins (from the Minnesota Vikings to the Atlanta Falcons).
The Broncos had parted ways with Wilson after just two years and ended a (costly) misunderstanding. According to ESPN, the 2014 Super Bowl champion will receive a one-year contract with the Steelers, during which time Denver will have to pay him $38 million. “Hard times don’t last forever, tough guys do,” Wilson said after his departure from the Mile High City: “I’m looking forward to what comes next.”
