It’s been six years since “Ready Player One” was released in theaters, but Warner Bros. is now returning to the well-known universe of the Steven Spielberg film. Not because Ernest Cline’s novel “Ready Player Two” is to be made into a film, but rather to bring the science fiction universe into reality.

The AI company Futureverse, Ernest Cline and Warner producer Dan Farah are working together on Readyverse, which will take users into the virtual reality known from “Ready Player One” as early as 2024.

Readyverse Studios is laying the foundation to bring the promise of the open metaverse described in Cline’s novel “Ready Player One” and the blockbuster film adaptation into reality: an open, interoperable metaverse with multiple worlds and multiple IPs at large mass of consumers.

Statement from Readyverse

Although the Readyverse currently only has the rights to “Ready Player One” and the other works of Ernest Cline, other franchises from other studios will also become part of the virtual universe in the future.

It is not yet known whether the Easter egg hunt known from “Ready Player One” will also take place in the Readyverse. If the Readyverse proves that there is still great interest in “Ready Player One”, that could be reason enough for Warner Bros. to produce a film sequel after all.
