The news may come as a surprise, but for those who still don’t know, Rec Room is a game taking the form of a social platform available everywhere (consoles, smartphone, PC, virtual reality) where it is allowed and possible to create accounts for children (with limited functionality). But here it is Meta decided it would be different on its own helmets !
The news was announced by tweet:
???? META DEVICE PLAYERS????
Meta is requiring Rec Room, and all apps on the platform to block users under 13 years of age or be removed from the Quest store. This means Junior accounts will not be supported on Meta devices starting 11/14. Visit https://t.co/6NmQB0td9o for more info— Rec Room (@recroom) November 1, 2022
Here is a translation:
Meta demands that Rec Room and all apps on the platform block users under 13 or have the app removed from the Quest store for them. This means that Junior accounts will not be supported on Meta devices from November 14.
Meta did not fail to react by declaring:
We have never allowed anyone under the age of 13 to use our VR platform, so we asked Rec Room to remove access to Meta Quest devices from Junior accounts. We support Rec Room and want to make sure their app follows our terms of service.
This policy applies to public store content Meta Quest and the content ofApp Lab. Important precision, Accounts Junior will still be accessible from all other platforms other than those of Meta. Finally, the developers of Rec Room indicate that minors playing on accounts not Junior will have to report in case of banishment. To know more : Click here.
