Recall due to fire hazard: Cordless vacuum cleaners can overheat, warns AEG


Certain batches of AEG cordless vacuum cleaner product can overheat when in use. The brand owner Electrolux advises against its use and calls on customers to contact the service.

Owner of a wireless AEG FX9 series vacuum cleaner shouldn’t switch this on. According to Electrolux, it could under certain circumstances to a Overheating come and even the vacuum cleaner catches fire. A component used in the product is to blame. The manufacturer is recalling the products as a precaution.

AEG FX9: Certain serial numbers are affected by the recall

The recall does not apply to all models in the AEG FX9 series, but only to certain product batches. The manufacturer lists the specific serial numbers in one PDF document that can be downloaded. All important information (model name, product number and serial number) is on a label behind the cyclone unit of the vacuum cleaner.

“Products with other serial numbers within the AEG FX9 series are not affected. Other AEG or Electrolux products, including other vacuum cleaner models, are not affected ”, assures the parent company Electrolux in the official press release.

If your own cordless vacuum cleaner is affected according to the list, the manufacturer advises to the following steps:

  • Immediately take the device out of operation
  • Store the device separately from the charging station
  • Unplug the charging station from the socket

There is no danger during the charging process or in standby mode, possible overheating can only occur when using the vacuum cleaner. Michael Geisler, Managing Director of Electrolux Hausgeräte GmbH: “So far, no personal injury or property damage has been reported. The safety of our customers is a top priority at Electrolux and AEG, which is why we take this matter very seriously. We have therefore decided to recall all affected products in this range immediately ”.
