Recall: over 475,000 Teslas have to go to the workshop

Tesla is recalling over 475,000 vehicles to workshops in the United States. Because of problems with cameras and trunk.

The 475,000 vehicles are Model 3 and Model S sold in the United States. These are vehicles that were sold between 2017 and 2020. According to Bloomberg, exactly 356,309 Model 3 need repairs. The aim is to solve this problem: The wiring harness for the reversing camera can be damaged by opening and closing the trunk. That then prevents the camera image from being displayed, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

With the Model S there are 119,009 copies that have to visit the workshop, as the NHTSA writes. The affected vehicles were manufactured from 2014 to 2021. The front trunk lock on these Model S vehicles is faulty. This can cause the front hood to open unexpectedly.

Tesla fixes both of these deficiencies free of charge for owners.

In China, Tesla had to recall over 285,000 vehicles in 2021 to fix a software issue.

In the past few weeks, Tesla had written negative headlines with a software update that allowed the driver to play on the vehicle’s touchscreen while driving. Tesla has eliminated this annoyance with another software update: Tesla is rowing backwards – no more games while driving.

It is currently unknown whether Model S and Model 3, which were sold in Germany, also have to go to the workshop. There is nothing to be read about this on Tesla’s German-language website for recalls.
