Recall: Rice can cause internal bleeding

Ironically for the hamster purchase: Thousands of people have just stocked up on basic foodstuffs – now you should check your pantry again. Because there was a recall for rice in a cooking bag. And it is also the well-known brand "Uncle Ben's", which is represented in several supermarkets.

The manufacturer Mars Food Germany announced the recall itself, but points out that there are explicitly only 348 packs. Customers recognize the rice packs by the so-called EAN code and the best before date. The following products are specifically affected:

Recall of Rice: Uncle Ben's in the pack

  • Uncle Ben's Orinigal long grain rice in a cooking bag
  • "Perfect in 10 minutes"
  • 1 kg pack, 8 bags with 2 servings each
  • EAN code: 5410673854001
  • Best before date: 13.08.2022

The rice is said to have only been sold in Edeka branches in Baden-Württemberg from February 22, 2020. Other states, previously purchased packs or other Uncle Ben's products are not affected, Mars Food Germany affirmed in the press release.

The reason for the recall are foreign bodies – it cannot be excluded that there are small pieces of metal in the rice. In the worst case, these can lead to internal injuries, which is why the rice should no longer be eaten.

The manufacturer is calling on affected buyers to contact Mars Food customer service. This can be done by phone (04231-943280) or email ([email protected]).

Due to the circulating corona virus, hamster purchases are currently reported in Germany. While the disinfectant offered by Aldi was sold out within a very short time, the canned shelves were also empty in supermarkets. Pasta and rice were already sold out in many shops – that's why it's all the more important to check your stock.
