Record high water temperatures – Swiss rivers warmer than ever – News

The Schaffhausen Fisheries Office has not noticed any dramatic changes over the past few days, as fisheries supervisor Patrick Wasem told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Tuesday. Even if the water temperature of the Rhine was a dangerous 26 degrees on Monday evening, there was no mass death of the fish.

The precipitation and at least partially falling outside temperatures had a positive impact on the fish population in the Rhine.

Wasem cannot yet give the all-clear. It depends on the development of the weather in the next few days whether the fish will definitely not die.

In 2018, up to 90 percent of the grayling died in the Rhine when the water temperatures were over 26 degrees Celsius for several days.
