(Reuters) – CMA CGM said on Friday its NEMO service linking Europe, the Indian Ocean and Australia would temporarily stop transiting the Suez Canal and passing through the Cape of Good Hope, following the attacks Houthis from Yemen against commercial ships in the Red Sea.

“The NEMO service will temporarily stop transiting via the Suez Canal to pass through the Cape of Good Hope, in both directions,” the shipping group said in a statement, adding that it wishes to ensure the safety of its vessels and its crews.

The attacks carried out for several weeks by the Houthis have disrupted navigation via the Suez Canal, the shortest sea route between Asia and Europe.
