The custom probably originated over 2000 years ago in the times of the ancient Romans. There, red lingerie was considered a good luck charm – related to the love affair. The custom has made a career and is now popular on New Year's Eve. However, nowadays the red underwear no longer only stands for luck in love, but as a good luck charm for the whole of next year.
Women in Mexico, Chile and China in particular prefer to wear red on New Year's Eve. Those who strictly follow tradition must have a red bra and panties and can wear the red suit for the first time at the turn of the year. After that, the laundry may no longer be used, otherwise happiness will fade again.
