A new partnership between Reddit and Giphy has just emerged. Now all users will be able to respond with GIFs. The feature was paid or subject to a few conditions before that.
This is very good news that users of the famous Reddit forum have just learned. Wednesday July 13, online GIF database Giphy announced a new partnership with Reddit. This notably includes an extension of Reddit’s GIF functionality in the comments for all users. This new partnership will literally change the lives of all users who wish to respond with GIFs.
Long before this partnership, they typically posted a link to a GIF on a third-party host. But the new partnership now removes the extra step of clicking on a linked GIF to see the image or animation. Reddit had previously tested adding GIFs to Reddit comments. But they were only available to those who had paid for a Powerups subscription. After seeing success with this feature for the past two years, it will now be available to all users.

All Reddit users will now be able to reply with GIFs
The new partnership, however, requires that existing “sub-reddit” moderators agree to enable new feature. Being able to reply with GIFs is indeed only available to eligible subreddits, if their moderators have chosen to use it. That is, if your subreddit existed long before this feature was released, your moderators must enable it to make it available for use on that subreddit. Conversely, if it was launched after the feature went live, the GIF replies feature should already be enabled.
The GIFs thus represent the latest update that Reddit has added to its comment sections. Already last April, Reddit had started indexing comments in its searches. Part of the move was to make it easier to find stuff outside of specific subreddits, something users have been asking for for a long time. More recently, Reddit had also started testing Collectible Avatarsits program for selling NFT profile pictures, which avoids using the term NFT.
