Reduce plastic waste: How it works | BRIGITTE.de

Anke takes part in our experiment "Better live sustainably", in which she is in close contact with our experts. In order to make her everyday life sustainable, the triple mother now wants to largely do without plastic and avoid waste. She tells us how she does it. Here you can read how our visit to Anke went.

First aisle drugstore.

"We need toilet paper and soap for the kitchen. The toilet paper is packed in plastic, also the recycled toilet paper – I won't buy any other anyway. There is no way around it. You have to see whether the packaging can be used at home. The refill packs of the liquid soaps are all in the plastic container, as usual. So back to the good old soap. There is no packaging in wonderful smelling natural varieties. Great! "

Continue to the organic discounter.

"On the note are cheese spaetzle with salad, hokkaido soup and raclette. I also want to bake bread and yeast cake and we need yogurt, cornflakes, lactose-free milk, cheese and honey. Flour and yeast are available in paper bags, milk, yoghurt, honey in a glass ( partly in a reusable system). Unfortunately, cornflakes, crunchy and Co. are all packed in plastic. Couldn't one also use paper here, as with flour? "

Cheese counter.

"All loaves that have been cut are wrapped in cling film. The cut piece is wrapped in paper, but it looks heavily coated. The remaining loaf is packed in cling film, the old one was already disposed of. Too bad!"

The vegetable counter.

"Where did the paper bags go? When asked, they say that they are experimenting. Unfortunately, there are currently only plastic bags that are unfortunately not made of recyclable material. Well, then probably without a bag!

With the peppers, the bog carrots and the tomatoes, that's no problem. The salad is really damp. Hopefully the paper bag around the flour won't soak. With the two kilograms of potatoes there are problems at the checkout. The loosely rolling potatoes just don't want to sit together on the scales. Eye rolls in line behind me. Hello, we are in the health food store, it’s the weekend and I’m in the middle of shopping sustainably. Please chill everyone!

After a short discussion, the potatoes have to be put into the bag for weighing. But I only take this one and then stuff the rest of the vegetables on it. I have to come up with something for the future about how to solve this better. "
