A colorful bouquet of topics are on the ballot papers of cantons and communes today. Elections are held in two cantons.

This Sunday, several cantons and municipalities are calling their voters to the ballot box. Decisions are made on tax cuts, road construction projects or climate policy. A by-election to the Council of States takes place in St. Gallen.

In Basel-Stadt, a broad tax cut package is due to be voted on, ranging from higher social security deductions to lowering the wealth tax rate.

In the canton of Bern, decisions are being made on two road construction projects worth millions. The projects are intended to solve the traffic problems in the Aarwangen and Burgdorf areas.

In the two cantons of Nidwalden and Obwalden, future climate policy is at stake. Initiatives call for the cantons to become carbon neutral by 2040.

Those entitled to vote in Graubünden are deciding on the construction of a CHF 178 million university center for the Graubünden University of Applied Sciences. It is the canton’s largest building construction project of all time.

In St. Gallen, the voters choose a successor for the outgoing SP Councilor of States Paul Rechsteiner. The seat is contested: four national councilors are candidates in the by-election.
