Regional train derailed – violent storms in Tyrol: train hit by Mure

Severe storms raged in parts of Tyrol on Tuesday evening: a mudslide occurred in Seefeld (Innsbruck-Land district) – an ÖBB regional train was hit by the masses of rubble and literally trapped. The B177 Seefelder Straße also had to be closed. There was also damage and closures in Alpbach and Zillertal.

At around 7.30 p.m. a violent storm with heavy rain fell in the Seefeld area in Tyrol. A short time later there was a mudslide between Seefeld and Scharnitz. The federal highway and the railway line running over it were completely buried. Passengers and train drivers were evacuated. A regional train that was traveling towards Innsbruck was hit by the masses of rubble and literally trapped. The set also partially derailed. “The four train passengers and the locomotive driver were evacuated from the railcar by the fire department and then taken to Seefeld train station. “They were all uninjured,” said the police. Federal road and railway line closed. According to the state of Tyrol, the mudflow was around 250 meters long and up to one and a half meters high. The B177 Seefelder Straße was closed overnight as a precaution. The situation on site will be assessed over the course of Wednesday and a decision will be made about how to proceed. The railway line is also still closed for the time being, as ÖBB spokesman Christoph Gasser-Mair explained to the “Krone” in the morning. The train had not yet been recovered by morning. Trees in Alpbachtal uprooted by storm. Violent storms also hit the Tyrolean lowlands in the evening. In Reith im Alpbachtal (Kufstein district), several trees were uprooted by strong gusts of wind and fell onto the municipal road and the property of a residential building. A car parked near the house was damaged by a fallen tree. Fortunately, no one was injured here either. In Hart im Zillertal, a tree fell against a power pole due to the storm. “Part of the power line was torn down, but there was no fire due to sparks,” reported the executive. However, the electricity was immediately switched off. Nobody was injured here either.
