Belgian Renaud, fourth biggest winner of Do not forget the lyrics, wins hands down the first League of Maestros orchestrated by Nagui. The candidate reacts to his victory.
After two days of competition, started during the daily broadcasts of December 31, 2021, Renaud finally won in the very first League of Maestros of Don’t Forget the Lyrics (the full results can be found here). A real revenge for this candidate of Belgian origin, who had been very disappointed by his performance during the previous edition of the Masters of the Nagui game on France 2 (he had been eliminated in the round of 16). Very moved at the time of his victory, this Saturday, January 1, 2022, the participant looks back on his feat to TV-Leisure.
TV-Leisure: What did your tears express when you won?
Renaud: Pride, after having provided so much work. I have made so many sacrifices over the past two years! It ended up paying off. I was happy with my wins in the Masters, but in terms of prestige, I was a little disappointed to have been eliminated in the round of 16. I had worked a lot to go further.
This is one of the shows you had least revised… Do you need to learn to trust yourself?
I think yes. At the time of the Masters, we always feel a little pressure, because we want to see if the work we have done will pay off. I am a competitor, I like to rub shoulders with the best, to see if I have made progress. I have to learn to take a step back, and handle the pressure. What maybe made the difference tonight was that I had less stress. I was more in the game. We didn’t know the rules, we were immersed in the unknown, and I liked it not to have to calculate anything.
You like to compete with the best, have you been served?
Yes, I love this formula of Do not forget the lyrics. I had already played against Kevin two years ago, during the tournament. He’s a lovely boy. And there, to be able to face Margaux, Caroline, and Jennifer… When there are many of us, we always tend to go towards the people with whom we have the most affinities. There, being in a small group allowed us to get to know better, with the most recent Maestros, like Jennifer and Caroline.

It helps on the “Same song” test. It requires a lot of concentration. With the spotlights changing direction, I’ve already been surprised. Putting yourself in a bubble helps you concentrate. Even if you are never safe from a memory loss, or from getting lost in the melody.
Can we imagine Pauline, your partner, delighted to see you win this trip?
Mauritius is a dream destination. With Pauline, we had planned to travel, but we were slowed down due to the pandemic. It’s a gift for her too, who had to endure my constant revisions. This victory is also his own.
Will this victory give you confidence for the 2022 Masters?
I had not lost confidence in myself, but I doubted a little. I’m going to take a step back and put the pressure on myself a little less. I’m happy too, because the goal of this tournament was to offer 100,000 euros for the association. Also happy that everyone was able to win something. We felt that the atmosphere was good-natured!
