PARIS (Reuters) – Luciano Biondo, general manager of ElectriCity, Renault’s electrical hub in the north of France, should next month take charge of the industrial operations of Ampère, the future electrical entity of the diamond group, have three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
A great expert in the automotive industry, Luciano Biondo was previously director of the Trnava (Slovakia) and Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin) factories of PSA – now Stellantis -, then of the Toyota factory in Valenciennes (North).
Its scope includes the three ElectriCity sites – Douai and Maubeuge for vehicle assembly, Ruitz for transmissions – as well as the Cléon engine factory (Seine-Maritime), which produces both thermal and electric blocks. .
Ampère’s ambition is to produce 400,000 battery cars in 2025 and 600,000 in 2026.
Renault is organizing an investors day in mid-November on its highly anticipated future electric entity, which it plans to list on the stock market in early 2024.
Ampère must be technically separated from the diamond group at the beginning of next month, and the complete organization chart of its new management published immediately.
The objective of the entity, which could be valued at up to ten billion euros according to the general director of Renault Luca de Meo, is to gain in agility in the face of the profound technological change that the automobile industry is experiencing and the appetites of new entrants like Tesla or Chinese brands.
Ampère, where the latest investor, Mitsubishi, announced Tuesday its intention to invest up to 200 million euros, wants to appear as a “pure player” in electricity and software, and no longer remain drowned in middle of the historical activities of a group more than a century old.
