New details regarding the objectives of the 2030 Alliance between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi are now known.
In addition to the 23 billion euros of common budget intended to offer 35 new electric vehicles over the next 8 years, a strategy of ” intelligent differentiation ” is setup.
Common platforms and lower prices for batteries
Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi recently announced their joint intention to help produce new, more affordable electric vehicles. New information has been communicated, in particular concerning the common platforms adopted.
The first platform, CMF-AEV, is to equip the most attractive vehicles in terms of price, such as the Dacia Spring. The second, the KEI-EV, will be used on ultra-compact vehicles, while the third, the LCV, will equip vehicles for commercial use, such as the next version of the Renault Kangoo. The fourth platform, called CMF-EV, is already used for crossovers such as the Nissan Ariya and the Renault Mégane E-Tech. Finally, the CMF-BEV will be for the next compact vehicles, such as the future electric Renault 5 and Micra, for a total of around 250,000 vehicles per year equipped with this latest platform alone.
CMF-BEV, which should reduce energy consumption by 10% and costs by 33% on a model like the Zoé, is not the only way to save money. The batteries produced jointly by Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi will thus bring down the price of this essential component for the electric vehicles of the 2030 Alliance. The reduction will be 50% from 2026, and even 65% in 2028. three firms hope to be able to connect no less than 25 million of their vehicles to a cloud system developed by them by 2026. This will notably be compatible with remote updates (OTA).
