He also speaks gloomily about the year 2021. According to forecasts, the country would even have recorded an increase in emissions of four percent. The minister therefore speaks of “a considerable backlog” in terms of climate protection. The country must now triple its efforts “in all areas” and significantly promote the expansion of renewable energies.
Get on track with new measures
Habeck notes that too little has been done, especially with wind energy. This should now be strongly promoted. He wants to have a first package of measures on the way by April.
Among other things, this stipulates by law that solar roofs are mandatory for new buildings. It should also be anchored in law that two percent of the country’s area should be reserved for wind energy plants. “We need more space,” says Habeck. Only Hesse and Schleswig-Holstein would currently be close to the goal. By the summer he wants to have traveled to all countries and spoken to the specialist ministers or prime ministers.
