Kaczynski announced at the PiS parliamentary group meeting that he would give up his government post at the beginning of next year, the PAP agency reported on Wednesday, citing party circles.
As a justification, the 72-year-old said that he is currently only at the party headquarters once a week; this is not sufficient for the leadership. In future he wants to concentrate more on party work.
Together with his twin brother Lech, Kaczynski founded the PiS in 2001, the name of which means «Law and Justice». Lech Kaczynski was killed in 2010 when the Polish presidential plane crashed in Smolensk.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski was head of government from 2006 to 2007. After his party came to power again in 2015, he initially sat as a simple member of parliament. In October 2020 he took over the post of Deputy Prime Minister after a government crisis. He oversees the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Defense.
