Report on meeting in Munich: Haaland apparently negotiated with FC Bayern for a long time

Report on meeting in Munich
Haaland is apparently negotiating with FC Bayern for a long time

Erling Haaland’s exit clause is an ongoing topic in Dortmund – and of course also interesting for FC Bayern. According to a report, the striker and the Bundesliga record champions met for detailed talks in early March. The people of Munich do not contradict the information.

Probably only Erling Haaland can put an end to this drama, which can be observed around the question of which jersey the world-class footballer will wear after the summer break. It will almost certainly not be Borussia Dortmund’s black and yellow, that seems clear by now. The 21-year-old has outgrown the Revierklub and strives for titles, preferably the big ones. FC Bayern is also targeting this every season, which after ten national championships in a row is increasingly shifting its focus to the Champions League. Which is why it seems only logical that the people of Munich are interested in Haaland.

At the beginning of March, the Norwegian national striker and Hasan Salihamidžić, Bayern Munich’s sporting director and squad planner, are said to have met in Munich. This is reported by “Bild”, which also claims to have learned from “hours of” conversations. The place of the conversation, which has not yet become public, was Salihamidžić’s private home. The tabloid also writes that when asked if it was correct that this meeting took place, FC Bayern did not want to comment. Which is not an admission, but also not a denial.

What, according to “Bild”, suggests that Haaland and Salihamidžić exchanged views: The attacker, who was injured for a long time in the spring, was apparently actually in Munich at the time in question. Primarily to get fit again after his muscle problems – which FC Bayern used to talk to the 21-year-old about his future.

Kahn weighs down when changing

It is also said that CEO Oliver Kahn went to Monaco around the same time to speak to Mino Raiola, the advisor to numerous stars. One of his clients is Erling Haaland, who has scored 82 goals and 23 assists in 86 competitive games in Dortmund so far, but is increasingly losing the sympathy of the fans with the theater about his future.

His contract with BVB is valid until 2024, but in exchange for a payment of around 75 million euros, according to consistent reports, the striker can leave early this summer. A sum that would not represent a record fee for FC Bayern – in 2019 Lucas Hernández came from Atlético Madrid for 80 million euros, the most expensive change in Bundesliga history to date. However, Kahn had recently announced that the people of Munich were of course interested in Haaland in principle – but the overall package including salary, consultant fees and the like was “very far away” from their own ideas.

Manchester City, the club that has bought its way to the top of English and European football with seemingly endless funds from the United Arab Emirates, has been the favorite for weeks. Jan Aage Fjörtoft, former Bundesliga professional at Eintracht Frankfurt, now a TV expert and close confidante of Haaland, announced at Sport1 at the weekend: “Manchester City is in pole position. But I know that Bayern are still try very hard to get him.” How successful these efforts are remains to be seen.
