Ghost of Tsushima gives PC players a very unpleasant surprise just a few days before its release. But what is Sony doing? It all doesn’t smell very good.
Very bad news has just fallen for PC players who are firmly awaiting the arrival of Ghost of Tsushima. Sony, visibly very cautious, seems to have taken a more radical decision to avoid a new controversy, except that it shows like the nose in the middle of the face. It might leave traces…
Sony doesn’t want a second storm after Helldivers 2
Recently, Helldivers 2 was the victim of a veritable torrent of criticism. Review bombing, anger on social media… anyone with eyes on the internet has seen the storm.
The reason ? A decision by Sony which suddenly forced PC players to register on PSN to use the game, even if it meant cutting off their access if they did not have access to PlayStation Network services.
Obviously, the pill did not go away at all and Sony had to backpedal, but it certainly did not forget its policy. It seems obvious though, Sony games will require a mandatory connection to PlayStation services, in the same way that Ubisoft or Microsoft also require a connection to theirs, regardless of the platform on which you play.
Ghost of Tsushima won’t be available for everyone on PC
However, it is above all the lack of transparency and the extremely clumsy methods used by Sony which did not please. So to avoid being subject to the same anger with its next game, Sony made a rather violent decision, that of literally removing the game from sale in certain countries. That way, no problem in sight.
Ghost of Tsushima will in fact be the first game to fully port PlayStation features to PC such as trophy support, but also a mandatory connection to PSN. The latter will be required to benefit from the cooperative online mode only.
Sucker Punch, the studio, has clearly stated that there will be no need for a connection to play solo. But we suppose that if Sony preferred to cut everything, there is a reason.
In total, no less than 180 countries are concerned. A radical measure which risks leaving traces and which still seems quite chaotic since initially, even Japan was on the banned list while the country is very widely covered by PlayStation services, it is a bit like the stronghold of the society…
For us, Ghost of Tsushima will be released on May 16 on PC and it will of course require a mandatory connection to the PSN if you ever plan to play multiplayer. You have been warned this time.
